To us, The International Woodworking Fair (IWF) is a bit like your birthday and Christmas morning rolled into one. We almost always come back with some new presents for our shop. This year we found a great new addition in Aisle B, Booth 7553. There in the Biesse America booth was a new Viet sanding machine. This Italian-made high precision machine has four sanding heads, one more than the one currently in our shop, and includes new technology to precisely maintain the same sanding pressure despite changes in surface thickness. This will give us the ability to precision sand veneered panels without danger of damaging delicate veneers. It also provides an extra fine sanding operation to moldings and other millwork.
Knowing how important sanding is to final finish, we’ve been tracking new equipment ideas that could help us get even richer, deeper, more defined surfaces. We even held shop trials of various hand sanders leading to the purchase of a new fleet of Mirka sanders from Finland. Our new Viet machine is being built in Biesse’s Italian plant and will arrive in Rittman at the beginning of 2023. There it will join an international collection of the finest woodworking equipment in the world.
